Slovakia wants to treat a Russian fighter prematurely. Or we would entrust the Poles
Slovakia is preparing to end the operation of MiG-29 military fighters, whose time depends on Russian technicians working at the Sliač military base.
According to Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger, sky protection could temporarily secure Poland. Slovak politicians began to resume the mig after the Russian army attacked Ukraine last week.
“Naturally, in my opinion, Poland comes into play. They have technology that we also buy“Heger said in today’s Radio Expres discussion program about who could ensure the protection of the country ‘s airspace until Slovakia’ s newcomers to the F – 16.
He added that the country is expecting them next year. Heger said that the operation of migs cost the country 50 million euros a year and that ensuring the protection of the Slovak sky by an allied country will be expensive.
In 2019, the then Slovak government decided to extend the life of obsolete MiG-29 fighters. It agreed to continue the contract with the Russian company RSK MiG regarding the provision of technical support for the Slovak army migas until the end of 2023 with an option for another year.
The continuation of the contract with the Russian company of the Ministry of Defense then took precedence over cooperation with NATO partner countries.
