From Naples to Alexandria: 10 years later El Bati Larrivey returns to score in Italy
Scoring in Italy almost ten years after the last time. Maybe not even Joaquim Larrivey would have dreamed of a similarity, given that after the end of his history with Cagliari – 2011/12 season – his career had continued away from our country, between Mexico, United Arab Emirates, Japan and then Chile, without until last January his name returned to circulate in the Italian market news. At least until Cosenza, with a surprise move, decided to bet on El Bati to reinforce the attack on the hunt for a difficult, but not impossible, salvation.
The Argentine born in ’84 had the challenge and made himself available to the Calabrian team, taking with him the enormous experience accumulated and the desire to amaze again. So against Alexandria, in a very delicate match for the permanence in Serie B, the center-forward coming from the bench was able to be decisive by conquering and transforming the penalty of the definitive 2-1 that allowed the Calabrians to hook up their opponents in the standings and put an end to a 4-month-long fast of victories.
A goal that came almost ten years after the last scored in his first Italian adventure: Larrivey in fact hadn’t scored in a championship since 9 March 2012 when he was able to score a hat-trick at the then San Paolo against Napoli coached by Mazzarri . A useless hat-trick, given that the Azzurri won 6-3, but which represented the last Italian goals of the expert striker, at least until last Saturday.
