Pact of friendship between Venice and Strumica, united by the tradition of the carnival
A delegation from the city of Strumica, a town in North Macedonia, visited Ca ‘Farsetti, the seat of the Municipality of Venice. The president of the Venetian municipal council welcomed the mayor Kostadin Kostadinov accompanied by the city secretary, Aleksandar Odjakov, and the president of the Carnival committee, Aleksandar Cicimov. Also present at the meeting, which took place on Friday 25 February, were the consul general of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stojan Vitanov, and the vice-president of the Union of Honorary Consuls in Italy, Mattia Carlin.
The city of Strumica, located in the south-eastern part of North Macedonia, is famous for its carnival: this was precisely the leitmotif of the meeting, during which a friendship pact was signed between the two cities. with the invitation, addressed to President Damiano, to return soon the visit received today.
A moment of sharing was also dedicated to common concerns about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. “I believe that in a moment like the one we are experiencing, the fact that European values of dialogue and peace are shared is important – said President Damiano -. Throughout its history, Venice has always been a place of encounter and dialogue with cultures and peoples, the city of peace par excellence. Today this meeting – you concluded – takes on an even greater value ». On the sidelines of the meeting there was the traditional exchange of gifts between the representatives of the two cities.
