Austria celebrates team victory in Lahti
The Austrian team secured victory in the team competition in an exciting decision at the World Cup in Lahti. The DSV quartet catches up in the final and also ends up on the podium.
With a total of 1087.9 points, the Austrian team secured victory in the team competition in Lahti, Finland. The quartet with Jan Hörl, Clemens Aigner, Ulrich Wohlmentioned and yesterday’s winner Stefan Kraft prevailed in an exciting decision against Slovenia (Ziga Jelar, Cene Prevc, Timi Zajc, Peter Prevc; 1082.4 p.). The German team with Constantin Schmid, Severin Freund, Markus Eisenbichler, Karl Geiger (1058 p.) also achieved the hoped-for podium place.
After the first round, the Slovenian team was still in the lead ahead of Austria and Norway. However, an extremely exciting fight for victory was already announced at half-time: In the end, the Austrians, who had already been successful at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, ended up with 5.5 points for victory.
Norway awards podium in final
Even during the final it looked as if the team of national coach Stefan Horngacher would pass the podium they had hoped for. But then it was Daniel-André Tande who dropped valuable meters in the second round with 119 meters and made it possible for the German quartet to take third place.
Wasek disqualified: Poland without a chance
Positioned in fifth place after the first round with a single podium place, the Polish ski jumpers (Piotr Zyla, Pawel Wasek, Dawid Kubacki, Kamil Stoch) had no chance after Pawel Wasek was disqualified after his second jump due to irregular jumping shoes. With only seven instead of eight jumps in the ranking, the quartet ended up in eighth place behind the Russians (7th).
The hosts from Finland (Antti Aalto, Eetu Nousiainen, Kalle Heikkinen, Niko Kytosaho) finished sixth behind the fifth-placed Japanese (Yukiya Sato, Naoki Nakamura, Junshiro Kobayashi, Ryoyu Kobayashi).
