PISA

What to do in Pisa and its province on the weekend of 26 and 27 February 2022

Sugar Mizzy February 25, 2022

The Carnival weekend has arrived. Masked parties, themed treasure hunts, dinners with crime. There are many ways to celebrate the most colorful party of the year. But there will also be other appointments. From excursions to enjoy a day outdoors to the magic of cinema, from medieval villages to theatrical performances. Here are some tips.

Carnival comes to Bientina with a costume party for everyone, young and old. The Park of Villa Pacini Sunday 27 February in fact, it will open its doors for an afternoon of music and confetti. So much fun among clowns, jugglers, friars and characters from the ‘I Bientinacci’ group. Admission is free.

A grim castle, vampires and a crime to be solved. There is no more original way to celebrate Carnival. To the Borgo degli Aranci an electrifying (and tasty) Dinner with crime. This time at the center of the intrigue is the mythical Count Vlad, the most famous vampire of all time. The actors, between one course and another, will stage a real thriller in an ironic sauce. But be careful because it is among them that the culprit of the heinous crime is hidden. The appointment is for Saturday 26 February, reservations required.

From the splendid frescoes with coats of arms and heraldic insignia to the representation of the theological virtues. The one of Sunday 27 February it is an excellent opportunity to discover the art and history kept inside the Town Hall Of San Miniato, for centuries the heart of the civil power of this medieval village. Built in the fourteenth century as the residence of the Twelve Defenders of the People, the palace has points of considerable interest, to be explored thanks to the guided tours available.

Taste the food and wine specialties of Piedmont without taking any train? It is possible thanks to the Piedmontese cuisine evening organized Saturday 26 February from ‘The art of drinking and …’ (La Fontina). It starts with a typical appetizer to arrive at the Castelmagno gnocchi with Piedmontese hazelnut IGP and black truffle. Could not miss the braised in Barolo wine and, of course, to conclude, the amaretti. All accompanied by local wines. Reservation required.

Screenings of short films made by Pisan filmmakers. Short films shot last August in the most evocative and little known corners of Pisa, when 60 directors and cinematographers from all over the world arrived in the city. Just get comfortable and enjoy the magic of cinema. Saturday 26th February come back Cinemadamarethe largest gathering of young filmmakers in the world, with ‘Waiting … Cinemadamare 2022‘, an entire afternoon of 360-degree cinema, free and open to all

An excursion into nature, but also into history among ponds, water pumps, farms, Medici villas, groves and radio waves. Saturday 26th February you go back to Coltano with a piano tour in a decidedly particular area, also in search of the idorvore of Pisa. In short, an opportunity to rediscover an area close but at the same time ‘far’ from the city between anecdotes and curiosities.

For those who prefer to get on the bicycle to enjoy the beauty of the area, Sunday 27 February there Tale (Italian Federation of the Environment and Bicycle) organizes a trip between Pisa and Cascina. Along this stretch the loops of the Arno are scattered with churches, fortifications and villas. The participants, guided by a professor, will thus discover the traces still visible left by history.

A treasure hunt of Carnival. A secret word to find by following the clues scattered throughout the Museum. Sunday 27 February another appointment at Graphics Museum for the little ones, who could become detectives to arrive, after having sifted through the works of art exhibited in the exhibition ‘Mitographies and other fables. Renzo Galardini’s prints’, to the solution and then to the final treasure.

Another appointment for the little ones, Sunday 27 Februaryto the Teatro Nuovo-Binario Vivo with Alice in Chess Country‘, inspired by the famous tale of L. Carroll. A white rabbit, accomplice of the spectators, will guide our Alice between characters and twists in a path of metamorphosis and transformation that will develop on a chessboard.
