Toulouse: comedian Jean Deel has fun in “A little game without consequence”

Sugar Mizzy February 25, 2022

“A Little Game Without Consequences” is a bittersweet satire by Gérald Siblerays and Jean Dell, directed by Stéphane Battle and Pierre Matras. Interview with Jean Dell, an actor and a discreet author who goes from the TV series to the cinema and to the boards with as much ease as ever.

What is “A Little Game Without Consequences” about?

It is a frenetic ballet of romantic feelings carried out at a beating drumbeat. On stage, two women, three men and six possibilities. A model couple apparently, Claire and Bruno announce their separation during an evening…. imagined by game. The game is spawned. Each of the guests will reveal themselves, drop the mask, to show their true face. A piece around seduction, play but which can also have serious consequences. Everyone knows that you don’t mess with love!

This piece has received several awards…

Absoutely. She has been nominated nine times and received five Molière awards. It has become a cult piece. It tells the story of life, the human being who sometimes knows how to set no limits and who has too much fun with feelings.

You are an author, screenwriter and actor, as comfortable on stage as in front of a camera. What do you prefer ?

They are two very different disciplines. The cinema has many means. We play in front of a camera. The theater is more alive, with no room for error. I have a small preference for the theater which for me represents “a real leap into the void”. A new challenge every evening.

You have been living in Toulouse for five years. How do you find the city?

I love it. One of the cities in France with countless terraces. It’s very surprising when you come from Normandy like me. I also like the great diversity of cultures such as the Théâtre des 3 T which presented my play “Haute-tension”.

What are your projects ?

The Royal Theater in Bath in Great Britain is presenting one of my plays “An hour and a half” created in 2005. A tour project is also planned in London. I am very happy. It is rare for a French playwright to be performed in Great Britain. The only known one there is called Florian Zeller.

On television, you are known for your roles in “Clem”, a series in which you have played since 2011 the principal and teacher Michel Brimont at the Jacques-Prévert high school. Previously, you held the role of clerk for ten years in “The Judge is a Woman”…

In the public, TV and platforms are gradually taking over from cinema in the public’s tastes. It’s evolution and obviously the covid hasn’t helped anything. In the theater there is moreover a traffic jam of plays. For an author, the series is a royal road. It is an activity of comfort, assured. Even if it locks him into a role in the eyes of the viewer. For my part, I am considered a TV actor. An actor who went from TV to cinema. Apart from Alexandra Lamy, Jean Dujardin and Marion Cotillard, it’s quite rare.

A little game without consequence until Saturday February 26 at 8:30 p.m. and Sunday February 27 at 4 p.m. at L’Escale, de Tournefeuille (town hall square). 0562136030 mairiedetournefeuille.fr
