the biggest LOTTO myths and what’s really behind them – BZ Berlin
So many yellow moments of happiness hasn’t experienced Berlin since the 80s: Last year, they fell a total of 181 Berlin LOTTO players in their profits. Hardly anyone wins the LOTTO, right? At least that’s one of the many myths, which are related to the game of big money luck. Together with Thomas Dumke, spokesman at LOTTO BerlinIn the 11th episode of JACKPOT, moderator Michael gets to the bottom of the six biggest myths and asks his interlocutor the all-important question: true or false?
Is it perhaps more likely to win the LOTTO than from flashes to get hit? actually comes the man with the suitcase of money over with the lucky winners? And you don’t have to be terribly concerned about your winnings high taxes counting? Many LOTTO players have probably already asked themselves questions like these when they tick the boxes on their ticket and hoped for as much luck as possible on their own behalf. How such a win feels and what happens when you actually win, probably few of them experience. Or stay with us for a long time more LOTTO winners than we assume? Yes – says Thomas Dumke, spokesman for LOTTO Berlin and explains at the beginning of the 11th JACKPOT episode the general fascinationfrom playing the LOTTO: “When I presented my apprenticeship contract to the BVG more than 30 years ago, because I trained here, in order to get a monthly ticket, I was asked for the very first time, and this has accompanied me for over 30 years, what the next lottery numbers are draw faced. LOTTO is big because it is the only lottery that can give maximum win with minimum stake and that is what was chosen.” So much so that in Germany 7 million people play LOTTO regularly and 2 million people occasionally – always with the thought in mind “What happened if…” accompanied.
So why is the myth that there are almost no LOTTO winners so widespread? Thomas Dumke explains: “Of course, Berlin and all Berliners win first, because we are a non-profit company. But that only plays a marginal role. Is it the case that you don’t find out that so many win because people are more reasonable with their winnings than you would imagine. Our first recommendation, also from my colleague Mr. Trabalski, whom you have heard here before, is: Don’t talk about it.” Quite a few Berliners adhered to this last year, as the Berlin LOTTO spokesman reveals: “We had about 12,000,000 winners in Berlin last year, who of course also won small prizes like €5 or €10 or €20, but we also had almost 1,000 big prizes that won more than €5,000.” Moderator Michael sums it up: “That myth is definitely completely debunked, I would say.”
a look behind the scenes: This is how you win at LOTTO Berlin
After the first myth was quickly clarified, moderator Michael brings the next assumption into play: “There is, I will put it as a guess, the assumption that there were a lot more correct fives last week than this week. You’ll probably say immediately: That’s how it is.” Thomas Dumke confirms: “Yes, that’s the way it is. Of course, that also has a bit to do with luck.” Then it always depends on how many players tick the right numbers and how high the winnings are. “We already had the case that we drew a double-digit million amount and we had 222 people with six correct numbers and a super number and they then received around €80,000 and not the more than €20,000,000,” adds Thomas Dumke.
How high are they actually? the taxes, dying to accrue such a profit? The press expert immediately clears up another myth and explains: “In Germany, lottery winnings are not taxable. So if I win a lottery alone and put it under my pillow, then I will never pay taxes because we don’t have a wealth tax in Germany.” However, winners invest in real estate and generate income Rental income or other capital gainshowever, these would have to be taxed as normal. “It is very important that you ask us for a certificate of profit, which we also issue automatically, and then keep it safe,” advises Thomas Dumke.
Reality instead of (fake) film: That’s what LOTTO expects Winners
At the beginning of their conversation, moderator Michael and his guest were able to clarify that there are far more LOTTO winners than expected. But that would still be dying Lightning theory. What is more likely – to be struck by lightning or to win the LOTTO? “Of course there are also areas where there is combined lightning and thunder, I guess”, says Thomas Dumke, “But in Germany the probability is 1 in 20,000,000 of being struck by lightning. When playing the lottery it is already 1 in 14,000,000. This means that you are 75 times less likely to get six correct LOTTO numbers than to be struck by lightning. But I always say: If it’s going to hit me, then three tips will hit me.”
And also the myth that the lucky winners are from home Powerful man with the suitcase of money surprised turns out to be a misconception. Instead, the winning amounts are transferred or in the form of a quick transfer in the LOTTO house on Brandenburgische Strasse paid off. At the end, moderator Michael gets to the bottom of a very special myth. He wants to know: “It is said that pigs and horseshoes are real lucky charms. Is that a myth or is it a matter of belief?” Thomas Dumke reports: “There are many myths, but everyone from sports or other areas knows that if you’re lucky you always wear the same socks, that you always wear lucky trousers or have a lucky number, that you only open the door opens with the right or with the left. In addition, everyone has their own things. We experience that lucky numbers and chimney sweeps play a role. I think everyone really has their own way. That is what makes LOTTO exciting.”
