SPD sub-district Region Hannover postpones the ordinary party congress at short notice
REGION
Today, Friday, February 25, 2022, the executive board of the SPD sub-district Region Hannover unanimously decided to postpone the ordinary party conference for tomorrow, Saturday, February 26, to a later date. The assembly should have been held as a digital party congress with 240 delegates entitled to vote.
At the same time, Claudia Schüßler, member of the state parliament, who has been chairwoman of the sub-district since 2019 and has around 8,000 members, announced that she would not be available again to chair the SPD party organization. The SPD sub-district Region Hannover extends to the area of the Hanover region with the state capital and the 20 surrounding municipalities and has 40 local social-democratic associations.
The entire sub-district board very much regrets that the members of the state parliament from Barsinghausen have again given up their candidacy, but respect the sovereign decision. The board of directors unanimously thanked Schüßler for her successful work as chairman. “As a strong and cooperative leader, Schüßler was responsible for the SPD’s election campaigns for regional president, the regional assembly, for municipal and city mayors and for the elections to the German Bundestag last year,” said the Social Democrats. During Schuessler’s term of office, social democracy in the Hanover region achieved great success at all levels, also thanks to a powerful sub-district.
