Senhit, A voice for San Marino, video interview

Sugar Mizzy February 25, 2022

After taking San Marino to the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, Senhit was called to the last evening of the talent show “Una Voce per San Marino”, the television competition that will choose the artist who this year will represent the Titan at the Eurovision Song Contest (Turin, from 10 to 14 May), the talent organized by San Marino RTV, Media Evolution and the Secretariat of State for Tourism. The final was broadcast on Saturday 19 February, at the Teatro Nuovo di Dogana in San Marino (which was sold out) and was broadcast live on San Marino RTV starting at 21.00 (and visible on digital terrestrial channel 831, on Tivùsat at channel 93, on Sky at channel 520, and in streaming on the TV website). The singer and performer was joined on stage by her friend and colleague with whom she shares a cosmopolitan background Jonathan Kashanianpresenter of Israeli origins currently on air with “Detto fatto” on Rai 2. The program has received a great deal of attention, through social media with thousands of thousands of tweets and comments to find out the winner of the event.

We interviewed Senhit to talk about his experience, starting from an initial assessment:

The idea came from Marco Vannuzzi, this guy who works internally on San Marino TV (deputy head of delegation, ed) and accompanied me last year to Eurovision for San Marino. According to him, it would be interesting to create this Festival and do it by myself and another conductor. He said “Who better than you, an Italian who participated in Eurovision for San Marino?”. Everyone was struck by the enthusiasm that arose around the event. Ivana Spagna and Achille Lauro, among others, also came to attend and certainly contributed to raising the hype for this show. For me it was a great adventure. Jonathan is I was really a great teacher, I had already done the presenter in the past but this was the first time live. I enjoyed it, I got to propose my songs, it was a good experience. Maybe it has opened various doors, I did not expect all this fuss. We discovered it during the episode, live. The authors told us, behind the scenes, “Look, you are second on Twitter!” Very beautifull.

‘Adrenaline’ at high levels… And this is precisely the title of the song you brought with Flo Rida to the final exhibition of Eurovision 2021 last year.

It’s always a first time. In 2011 he did not know the show, I was superficial. They catapulted me to Dusseldorf, Germany. It was a discovery for me. It went less well because I am not taking San Marino to the final. But I promised myself that if I had another chance, I would make it. And ten years later they call me to participate in the 2020 edition, later canceled for Covid. I’m back for 2021 and we wanted to do things big. We called Flo Rida. Initially the piece was not intended for Eurovision but for the summer. Then I made a version that I proposed for San Marino at Eurovision. They supported the idea, including having a singer with an international rapper. We managed to get him to come to Rotterdam, respecting all the participants related to Covid and travel – and we did that magic you saw. It was a phenomenal experience, I’m very nostalgic even thinking about Eurovision this year in Turin.

What advice would you give to the participants of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, Mahmood and Blanco for Italy and Achille Lauro for San Marino?

Mahmood is ready, he has already done it. He will pamper Blanco, very young. I met Achille Lauro and saw him in San Marino. He is a particular person and I hope that he manages to amaze. Can you really do a show, Eurovision gives you the tools for such a performance. You can really do what you want. Think of a good idea, consistent with the song. They have two different pieces, Mahmood and Blanco with a melodic mid-ballad, Achille Lauro with an uptempo … the important thing for both is to amaze and be able to have fun.

Did you expect the victory of Achille Lauro, super favorite on the eve?

I figured I could win him. I hoped to participate in a woman, there were a lot of good emerging. I really liked the duo who finished second, Burak Yeter and Alessandro, I felt them Eurovision a lot. But he too will make a good impression in San Marino.

In a possible second edition of the show, would you return to running?

Why not? I’d love to, I felt comfortable. I did the show but I haven’t watched myself yet. At first I felt awkward but then I melted and enjoyed it. The idea of presenting it again for a second edition… let’s see. That could be a great thing.

We then asked Senhit what he thinks about the idea of this race open to all. Some had criticized Achille Lauro’s decision to participate in Eurovision after failing to represent Italy in Sanremo 2022. Finally, we also have his next projects. You can see the complete video interview above.
