I self-report, I’m not a journalist! This ancient Land of Freedom owes its protection as an independent Republic to its citizens who have this need for freedom in their DNA, in the depths of their soul. Freedom for a San Marino citizen is like the oxygen he breathes, he cannot live without it. But how is the freedom of a people achieved? The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, approved by the UN General Assembly in December 1948, establishes the right to freedom. The inalienability of civil, political, social rights and human dignity and the exercise of freedom are inextricably linked to respect for dignity itself and for justice. Let’s start with the first element: the inalienability of civil, political and social rights. The incident that happened in the Republic in recent days, that is, the exposure by the Secretary of Health Ciavatta to free citizens who dared to write in the newspaper “La Serenissima” without being journalists, is unlikely … just he who had become champion of freedom like Don Quixote, today he denies it to others! Either he didn’t believe it before, or he is acting prey to some demon now, hard to say for sure. Cornered in the Great and General Council by fierce, alarmed opposition councilors determined to defend that vital oxygen that is evident in the exercise of freedom of expression, he discharged all the responsibility onto the Court and the Commissioner of the Law, because he, he says, he only reported irregular possibilities in the management of the news outlet. And here we come to respect for dignity itself and for justice. Justice must be close to citizens and lived as a friend by honest people. However, attending the rooms of a court is not exactly a walk, those who find themselves having to do it are certainly a bit intimidated. The executive power (government) and the judiciary power (court) are autonomous and independent from each other and between one and the other there are various state control bodies (commissions, authorities, agencies …) which serve to ensure regularity and the functionality of the Institutions in every working, social, health sector… without having to go to the Court for every question immediately. The citizen or politician who has doubts or situations to be clarified first turns to these agencies, in charge and paid precisely to check, verify, even sanction if irregularities are detected. Why this time Ciavatta Secretary, or whoever for him, did not follow this process? He’s organismed these feet why doesn’t he jump? If not then why does the state pay them? Or, because he deliberately wanted to intimidate citizens by using the court as a club to limit their freedom of expression? In both cases, the secretary does not make a good impression on us, especially in front of the citizens he represents and who voted for him because he preached freedom and transparency. The most painful part and that really hurts the heart is seeing the dignity of people trampled on, free to whom it is communicated that “they are proceeding in order to the crime of undue exercise of a profession, foreseen and punished by art. 385 of the criminal code, for having exercised the profession of journalist, writing articles in the newspaper “La Serenissima”. This is pure intimidation! The climax then explodes with the quotation in the dossier also of the late Fausta Morganti, a woman who really gave so much to this country, who loved it viscerally and the fact that a few breaths from the end still wrote and fought to defend it proves it. All this is truly intolerable! I make an essential list of the urgent actions that the Secretary of Health should do in his specific functions, actions that citizens should and should absorb, without giving him time for anything else. The reform of the pension system (what happened to the ready draft of the Secretary Santi?). The reorganization of basic medicine and its strengthening (people call the clinics and find no answers). Freedom of therapeutic choice (is this still not enough with this green pass?). Right to public and free health care for all, without distinction (whoever is ill in this uncertainty is forced to turn to the private sector). Give answers to citizens who voted to have the freedom to decide on their own body with the law that regulates the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy (6 months have now passed since the referendum!). Comparison on the possibility of a new hospital structure or on the step-by-step renovation of the existing one. Legalization of medical and non-medical cannabis. Could I continue the list, there are so many things to do in health care, and does the secretary find the time to work for the limitation of citizens’ freedom of expression? Forgive me secretary, but would not apologize and resign on this serious time be more dignified?
