Emirates redirects flights to Russia, USA and Sweden
Travel on certain flights from the United Arab Emirates is affected in the midst of the current situation in Ukraine.
Several flights from Dubai to Russia have been canceled during the country’s invasion of neighboring Ukraine.
Other services, including to the USA and Sweden, are also affected due to the closure of airspace in Ukraine and parts of Russia.
Dubai Emirates Airlines has redirected several flights, including to Stockholm, Moscow, St. Petersburg and some routes between Dubai and the United States.
Travelers who are to fly with the airline have been advised to expect longer travel times on certain flights.
“Emirates has made minor redirects of our Stockholm, Moscow, St. Petersburg and some of our US flights affected by the closure of the airspace over part of Russia and the whole of Ukraine, in line with the latest announcements issued by authorities,” said a representative of Emirates The national.
“Flight times on these routes may be slightly longer as a result. We are closely following the development of the situation and, if necessary, we will take the necessary measures. The safety of our passengers, employees and operations will always be our top priority.
The airline Dubai also confirmed that the partner airlines flydubai and S7 Airlines have canceled flights to cities in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
From Abu Dhabi, Etihad has also redirected some flights, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates said on Thursday.
“Etihad continues to completely avoid Ukrainian airspace and, as a precautionary measure, has diverted flights away from the border region to the east and north of Ukraine at a significant distance. The safety and well-being of our guests is always Etihad’s top priority,” said an airline representative.
Flydubai cancels flights to Russia and Belarus
The low-cost airline flydubai has canceled services from Dubai to Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don in Russia and to Minsk in Belarus.
Passengers who will fly with the airline on these routes in the coming days will be contacted by flydubai.
The budget operator has canceled all flights between Dubai and Krasnodar, in the southwest of Russia, until Monday 28 February. It has also canceled flights to the Russian port city of Rostov-on-Don until the same date.
Flights to Minsk in Belarus are canceled until at least Tuesday, March 8.
“We will be in touch with our passengers regarding their refund and rebooking options,” a Flydubai representative confirmed..
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi and Air Arabia also fly to Russia. The national has contacted both airlines for an update on services.
The news comes after several airlines in the United Arab Emirates canceled flights to Ukraine on Thursday after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Europe’s second largest country.
Ukrainian airspace was closed to civilian flights on Thursday. The airspace over part of Russia is also closed.
