While Russia went to war with Ukraine on the night of Wednesday February 23 to Thursday February 24, 2022, Toulouse woke up sounded this morning.
It must be said that the Pink City has special ties with Ukrainians. Toulouse is indeed twinned since 1975 with the city of Kyiv, capital of Ukraine.
Toulouse twinned with Kiev since 1975
As part of this pairing, many Ukrainians have stayed in Toulouse in recent years in order to maintain common cultural ties.
Events and meetings celebrating Ukrainian culture have been regularly organized in the Pink City in recent years.
The Yaroslavna Association, created in 1998, its mission is to promote exchanges between Toulouse and Kiev by welcoming Ukrainian students in the cultural centers and families in the city.
“Solidarity with the Ukrainian people”
Given these privileged relations, the mayor of Toulouse, Jean-Luc Moudenc, gave his support to the Ukrainian people on Thursday February 24, 2022:
“All my solidarity, on behalf of the people of Toulouse, with the Ukrainian people brutally and unjustly attacked on their territory. I have a special thought for the inhabitants of Kiev, bombarded since that night, a city with which Toulouse is twinned”.
