Victory march for Bulgaria on “Strandzha”
Christian Nikolov, Rami Kiwan, Javier Ibanies and William Cholov brought new victories for Bulgaria at the Strandja boxing tournament, and unfortunately Krassimir Djurov and Kiril Rusinov failed in their matches.
Kristian Nikolov continued the successful Bulgarian series of the quarterfinals of the Strandzha Cup. The young national ranked in the Top 4 in the category up to 80 kg and guaranteed a minimum bronze medal from the international tournament. Nikolov overcame the resistance of the tough German Ben Echis. The national team reached our success with 4: 0 judges’ votes. This happened with the price of the small arcade, which opened above his right eye as a result of the blow to the head. For a place in the final tomorrow Nikolov will face another German – Silvio Schirle.
Rami Kiwan became the next Bulgarian national team to qualify for the semifinals. In his 75kg category, he won a dramatic victory over Kazakhstan’s Nurkanat Rais. The Bulgarian national team managed to win in a contested battle against its Asian rival with 3: 2 votes. The match went through a series of heartbreaking moments, as Kewan showed character and will to maintain his second victory in the 73rd edition of the tournament. In this way he secures a minimum bronze medal from the competition. In the semifinals on Friday, Rami will face the great star of Ukraine Alexander Hizhnyak.
Javier Ibanies secures another medal for Bulgaria. The former Olympic and world champion for youth has qualified for the semifinals of the 73rd edition of the international boxing tournament. He defeated Sweden’s Nebil Ibrahim 5-0 in the 57kg category. Ibanies reached his full potential in the second half of the match after starting more cautiously and informatively. In the second and third rounds, however, the Bulgarian national was clearly ahead of his opponent and logically congratulated himself on the victory. The last obstacle before the final for Javier is the Russian Hovik Oganisyan. The two will meet tomorrow night.
