Toulouse. The “red and black” want to come out of the shadows
When you think of Stade Toulousain, the oval ball is obvious. But in the shadow of the “red and black” giant, other disciplines want to grow. This is the case of the triathlon section. “It was introduced in 2019 in the cycling section of the Stadium on an idea by Jean-Louis Sainte-Livrade. Since then, we have been affiliated with the Triathlon Federation. At the start, we were just two members. Today, We have about ten of them, aged 36 to 59. If we could reach the bar of twenty members in the short term, it would be a great satisfaction,” explains manager Angel Sanchez.
Among its priorities, above all, is user-friendliness. “The goal is to bring this section to life. And, perhaps, this requires a good atmosphere. On an example made up of groups according to distance, such as the S (750 m swimming, 20 km cycling and 5 km in running) or the M (1.5 km in swimming; 40 km in cycling and 10 km in running). The objective is that everyone can find what they are looking for”, continues Angel Sanchez.
“This jersey, we wear it, but we must also respect it”
The manager also wants the “red and black” colors to be visible in competitions. “We wear this jersey, but we also have to respect it. This notably involves the values we want to convey, such as respect and fair play”, he insists.
In terms of training, the Stadistes currently have a swimming slot at the Jean Boiteux swimming pool. For cycling, this happens with the cycling section. As for running, the appointments are made in Sesquières or in the parking lot of the Stade Toulousain. “In running, we can count on Jérôme Gaby, member of the athletics section, who is our coach”, underlines Angel Sanchez, eager to see the “red and black” continue to develop at a good pace.
