Prague – Several protests against the Russian invasion of Ukraine will take place this afternoon in Prague. Demonstrations in support of Ukraine are also reported in the coming days. A demonstration on Wenceslas Square, organized by Ukrainian citizens, as well as a rally in front of the Russian Embassy in Prague, is scheduled to begin today at 5:00 p.m. In both places, however, people have been demonstrating since the morning.
“Let’s meet today on February 24 at 5:00 pm on Wenceslas Square. Together we will show that we stand behind Ukraine and we stand for Ukraine! Ukraine is a brave, brave and strong country. So we will support it as much as we can!” invitation to the evening event, at which Marharyta Golobrodská and Michal Majzner are listed as organizers.
“There is no program yet, we are responding to the development of the war and we cannot remain silent,” the organizers added. Around noon, about 100 people protested against the Russian invasion of Ukraine in Wenceslas Square, and there were dozens of demonstrators in front of the Russian embassy in ten weeks.
At the same time, an event organized by the Prayer for Ukraine group is to take place in front of the Russian embassy in Prague. Tomas Trusina, on behalf of the group, said that the program would include expressions of support for Ukrainians, support for the proclamation of Russian citizens “Mainly not war” and prayers.
A spokesman for the Prague City Hall, Vít Hofman, also announced today that other protest rallies have been announced in front of the Russian embassy until February 26, which takes place daily between 4:00 pm and 10:00 pm. There will also be a protest on Wenceslas Square on Friday, from 5 pm, called Stop the War in Ukraine.
“In support of Ukraine, we are organizing an event on Wenceslas Square from 2 pm on Sunday, February 27,” Hana Strašáková, a spokeswoman for the Million Moments for Democracy association, wrote to ČTK. The spokeswoman also referred to the opinion of the Millions of Moments, which Russian aggression condemns and highly democratic states, including the Czech government, to a confident and united position.
