There is a special camera in Prague that monitors whether drivers prefer pedestrians
There are thousands of cameras in the capital of the Czech Republic, some of which measure speed, others monitor traffic, others monitor unauthorized driving in designated lanes, and still others monitor the order in the streets. However, there is also a relatively unique camera in Prague, which was originally intended to monitor a very common and dangerous driving offense. In the end, however, he does not distribute fines.
He watches over pedestrian safety
If we take a look at the last yearbook of the Technical Administration of Roads m of Prague (TSK), which is in 2020, a mention of a smart camera that can monitor driving offenses can be found with the following description: “In the street Čs. Army at Národní obrany Street, a device that records driver offenses has been installed since 2012. This is not a red light ride, but not giving preference to pedestrians at an uncontrolled crossing. “
Simply put, this is a camera that should have been able to record a situation where the driver does not give preference to pedestrians at the crossing. It is his duty and failure to do so is a misdemeanor with a financial penalty of up to CZK 2,500. The law says: “The driver is obliged to allow a pedestrian who is on the pedestrian site or apparently wanted to use it to cross the road undisturbed and safely. Therefore, the driver of the vehicle must approach the pedestrian crossing at such a speed that he can stop before the pedestrian crossing. “

The camera never really worked properly
And because it’s sometimes difficult for drivers to prefer pedestrians in cities, TSK has installed this smart camera. However, her original destiny was not fulfilled. According to TSK, it was just a pilot project. And its termination has a relatively clear reason. It is not possible to set up this violation and evaluate it.
Barbora Lišková, TSK Prague spokeswoman, told us: “The facility works on the basis of documenting the priority of pedestrians at the pedestrian crossing. It was only a pilot project, but it is not clearly possible to determine whether the offense has already been committed or not. It is therefore the only facility of its kind in the capital. m of Prague. “
She also confirmed that the police had never used the camera: “Originally, the device was to be used for the purposes of the Police in the sense that there were to be traffic offenses arising for their further identification. But that never happened. After the end of the warranty, the device only serves as an educational element as a precaution. “
