“the Portuguese”. Spain now has electronic tolls and reminds Portugal
ANDn Portugal, electronic tolls, ex-SCUT, have been a reality for over 10 years. However, in Spain it became a novelty in 2022. The electronic toll was launched in mid-January of this year on the A-636 in Guipúzcoa.
A curious fact is that the press in the neighboring country did not forget to inform its readers of this news. “The first Portuguese-style electronic toll”wrote the newspaper Motor.es, specialized in the automotive industry.
The route of this complete motorway subject to toll collection will be divided into three sections: Beasain-Ormaiztegi; Ormaiztegi-Zumarraga; and Legazpi / Urretxu-Bergara.
The cost of the complete journey will be 2.53 euros for light gross vehicles and 41 euros for trucks weighing 12 tons or less.
The system used to pay the toll is ‘free-flow’, similar to Portugal. Either the driver has a payment device (Via Verde style) or he will have to register the vehicle registration on the Bidegi website associated with a credit card
