San Marino. Usgi: “Climate of hostility for freedom of information”
After the Information Consultancy, the USGI also intervenes on the “La Serenissima” case.
“The Union of San Marino journalists and photojournalists (Usgi), shares and supports the position taken by the Consultative Committee for information on the affair that sees citizens under investigation for the simple fact of having expressed their thoughts through articles in a newspaper . The statements of the Council must therefore be emphasized and supported where it expresses itself for a climate of hostility to freedom of expression of which the story of these days is only the latest episode that is added to other judicial actions against newspapers and journalists, offensive statements against the media in institutional settings, abuses in the intimation to disclose journalistic sources, subpoenas.
Actions that, if seen as a whole, arouse a great will because apparently converging towards the purpose of silencing the critical voices. Really a defeat for Democracy if out of fear, fear that unfortunately is already perceived in many citizens, those who want to express their thoughts would give up doing so because of intimidation, spite, retaliation, denunciations ”.
