The Métropole de Lyon had never planted so many trees in one year. By the end of March, 4,400 will be planted on the sidewalks, streets and squares of Greater Lyon. Zoom on Boulevard de la Croix Rousse.
This long boulevard which crosses the 4th arrondissement from east to west has been the subject of long discussions between the City of Lyon, the architects of the Bâtiments de France and the Métropole. Greater Lyon must be able to skilfully meet expectations.
“We will have something not bad”
Between the daily market and these famous architects of the Buildings of France, the step of maneuver was thin for the project of plantation of trees of the Metropolis. Pierre Athanaze, vice-president in charge of the environment, explains the solution adopted:
“We wanted a mixed plantation, without plane tree because of canker stain disease. We wanted to space them out, stagger them. Finally, we came across a quincunx of hackberries, a smaller tree. We will have something bad. »
A boulevard devoid of half of its trees
The elected metropolitan indicates that the community will “symbolically” start with about fifteen trees. “We will only replace the trees that are dying,” says the elected official.
Currently, half of it is already missing… “knowing that there is more than 2,000 trees on this boulevard de la Croix-Rousse, with a double alignment on each side of the sidewalk. This represents a tree every six meters, six meters 50. “
“Towards a more vegetated boulevard”
This reforestation of the boulevard de la Croix-Rousse in the Metropolis of Lyon completes the policy of the City which wants to “go towards a more walkable boulevardmore vegetated and shaded, with less traffic”.
Indeed, since last year, parking on the sidewalks has been prohibited from the Gros Caillou to the college of La Tourette, on the side of the 1st arrondissement, and on the entire boulevard, on the side of the 4th arrondissement, day and night. by night.
