Finnish coach Jalonen has arrived in Prague. Replace Pešán at the national team?
If he went to admire the monuments of the hundred-towered Prague, then it is a coincidence. Because Kari Jalonen has been speculated about for a few days as a possible new coach of the hockey team. And just a renowned Finnish coach was seen in the center of Prague on Wednesday. A complete coincidence? Probably not.
Just this afternoon, it should be clear about the composition of the implementation team for the next period. The Czech Hockey Executive Committee is meeting in Prague to deal with the performance of the national team at the Beijing Olympics, where the selection of Filip Pešán ended infamously before the gates of the quarter-off playoffs. And draw conclusions from it.
The president of the union, Tomáš Král, informed about Pešán’s replaced end last week. The future general manager Petr Nedvěd and assistants Martin Straka, Jaroslav Špaček and Zdeněk Orct are also uncertain.
Kari Jalon among the hot candidates and according to the bookmakers, where they belong to the trio with the lowest odds for the national team.
The 62-year-old Jalonen knows Prague well, in the previous year 2013/14 he led the Lion team in the KHL, with the Finnish national team he has silver from the 2016 World Cup, then he shone in Switzerland, where he dominated the local NLA with Bern (2017 and 2019).
