Christophe Monzie : “N’oublions pas que Bordeaux n’a gagné qu’une seule fois sur les huit derniers matches, et je ne compte pas la Coupe de France”
Christopher Monzie spoke about the next deadline of the Girondins de Bordeaux, namely this away match against Clermont Foot 63.
“We said that we would have to win in Clermont against the promoted, but it is a promoted who is doing well. He knew how to react after an impressive series of defeats. Clermont had beaten Bordeaux in the first match with the old team, the rookies were not there. We hadn’t been good, with a 0-2 defeat. This is the reason why it was all the more imperative to make up for this misstep by possibly winning at Clermont. Except that if Clermont was dying a month ago, today it’s not the same team at all. It is a formation which knew how to react and straighten the situation. This team has the answer, it is balanced, homogeneous, solid behind. This reaction in Marseille lifts it quite far from Bordeaux. This suggests to me that I no longer put in the fight to maintain, at least in the direct opponents of Bordeaux. There are still 13 games left, it’s true, but I think Clermont and Reims are still a bit far today. It is now a championship with 5 which will be played, with these five teams which are held in one point. Nothing is lost of course, we stay last but we are not stalled, which is the most important. There are five teams for three locations to avoid. If we are going to win on Sunday there, we will be able to put this team back in the fight to maintain, but if we lose we will not see them again in the crosshairs of Bordeaux until the end of the season. We have to catch up on this defeat in the first leg and, against Troyes, for other reasons, we will have to make the most of this victory in the first leg, one of the rare victories that Bordeaux have obtained away from home. It’s good to talk, it’s better to act. On two very important matches, but it will be much more complicated than expected in Clermont. After this point against Monaco, let’s not forget that Bordeaux have won only once in the last eight matches, and I’m not counting the Coupe de France”.
