Breen does not see himself as an M-Sport team leader in Sweden – DirtFish
Kalle Rovanperä leads him in the championship due to the fact that he won the power stage and that Breen did not win any bonus points, but it was intentional from Breen’s side because it means that Rovanperä must start first on the road on Friday.
But starting second can still ban Breen’s ability to fight for the win, so instead he concentrates on just making sure he stays close to the top of the championship table before the third round in Croatia where running at the front should be an advantage.
“I think it will be very difficult to start with the road position unless something extreme happens,” Breen admitted.
It is not a coincidence that Loeb and Ogier have won 16 Monte Carlos between them and how many Sweden have they won between them? It is very much single digits so there is a reason behind it, it is because they have always suffered from bad road positions in Rally Sweden and it has always been a fight, more than any other event in the championship it has been the one you are fighting at most on running near the front.
“Let’s see. I just want to try to save as many points as possible over the weekend and try to keep us in a good position in the drivers’ position on the way to Croatia where it will be a little more even again.
“That’s the most important thing to me.”
