Toni Kroos breaks down iconic free kicks against Sweden in a new video – Thick Accent
There are few players in world football who can be considered worthy of being called “champions”, and Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos can certainly count himself on that list.
The German national team player is known for having sublime technique and when he is at his best he dictates the effort in the matches without effort.
Undoubtedly, Kroos has lots of lessons for all young people who want to get into the game, and thankfully he gave the fans some insight into his free kick technique.
In particular, the German recreated his iconic free kick against Sweden and also talked the viewers through the process.
Kroos comes to us with permission from his Twitter account and begins by explaining the thought process behind the decision.
Free kicks from that angle are normally aimed at the box, hoping to be run in by a teammate. However, the death came in the final minute of the match, and with Germany facing an embarrassing early withdrawal from the 2018 World Cup, Kroos decided to take matters into his own hands.
The German then lights up how he made the angle better, and talks a bit about the quick pass to Marco Reus before wrapping his foot around the ball. According to the midfielder, the quick change opened up the angle and gave more space for the ball to crawl into the far post.
But a quick pass is not enough to just set goals as Kroos stressed the importance of a quick implementation. He talks about his short start before the strike and how it helped to speed things up, it also helped to avoid blockages by attacking opposing players.
The video concludes with some images of Kroos recreating the effort to perfection, leaving no doubt for those who believe that the incredible goal was just a coincidence.
