Protest against Russian invasion: Hundreds of Ukrainians demonstrate in front of the Russian embassy in Berlin
Ukrainians in Berlin are looking at their homeland with great concern these days. Several hundred people gathered in front of the Russian embassy in Berlin-Mitte on Tuesday afternoon to protest against the invasion of Russian troops.

On the Internet, the organization had “Vitsche Berlin”[linktr.ee] called to the event. The group of young Ukrainians has been organizing regular protests against the policies of Russian President Vladimir Putin since the end of January.
The youth organizations of the Green Youth, Jusos, Junge Liberale and Junge Union parties also called for participation in the rally entitled “Ukraine will resist”. A joint press release states: “As a young generation that did not experience the Cold War itself, it is also our responsibility to keep the peace in Europe and prevent war.”
At the same time, a rally under the motto “Protest against Putin’s Ukraine policy” is taking place in front of the Russian embassy building on Unter Den Linden early Tuesday evening. According to the police, this event was registered by a private individual.
At 2 p.m. the association “Women for Peace” wanted to hold a small rally in front of the Czech embassy on Albrechtstrasse. According to the police, ten participants were registered for the protest action under the motto “Solidarity with Ukraine”.
On Tuesday night it became known that Russian troops had invaded the eastern part of Ukraine. Russia’s President Putin had previously declared that he wanted to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed “People’s Republics” in Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine.
In response to the invasion, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) announced on Tuesday that he would temporarily suspend the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Politicians in Berlin and Brandenburg sharply condemned the latest Russian actions in the Ukraine conflict. Most of them accused Russia of breaking international law.
