UMD’s Emma Söderberg returns home after Olympic Run with Sweden
Söderberg finished with an Olympic-high 167 saves to help his country take a place in the quarterfinals.
DULUTH, Minn. – This week, UMD’s women’s hockey team welcomed back goalkeeper Emma Söderberg, who was over in Beijing and represented Sweden in the Winter Olympics.
Söderberg finished with an Olympic-high 167 saves to help his country take a place in the quarterfinals. But now she says it’s time to start working again.
“I have tried to tear off the patch to get to my routine as soon as possible for both hockey and school. I came back yesterday, but I hit the ice for a goalkeeper pass today with Lou so it will be good. Just like trying to get back to things as quickly as possible, Söderberg said.
In her absence, Jojo Chobak has been a breakaway star for UMD with a couple of roadblocks across Ohio State and Wisconsin. Head coach Maura Crowell says who will start this weekend against St. Cloud State is still in the air.
“Jojo and Sods are fantastic team players and they will support each other in whatever decision we make as coaches. I know they will be 100% behind it. But I think it’s a great situation from a coaching perspective. I know that we have two very capable goalkeepers and we will make the decisions that we feel are best for the team right now, said Crowell.
The penultimate match in the basic series will be on Friday at Amsoil Arena. Puck release is set for 15.00
