Archbishop Lackner received Patriarch Bartholomew
Archbishop Franz Lackner received the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I in Salzburg on Wednesday. The 81-year-old patriarch is currently spending a few days privately in Salzburg to relax. The focus of the private encounter was common ecumenical concerns, such as the Archdiocese of Salzburg in a split broadcast on Thursday. The Patriarch was accompanied by Metropolitan Arsenios (Kardamakis), among others.
Bartholomaios and Lackner said, among other things, the desire to further deepen the relationship between the churches so that the “Day of Unity” may not be far off. The Patriarch also highlighted his close ties to the Catholic Church and his meetings as Patriarch with all Popes since John Paul II. He feels “at home” in both Salzburg and Rome, said the Patriarch.
Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop Lackner also prayed the Lord’s Prayer together in Latin. Gifts were also exchanged: the patriarch is now returning to the Phanar in Istanbul with relics from the Salzburg diocesan saints Rupert and Virgil, among other things. Before that, however, he will also travel privately to Paris, like the information portal “Orthodox Times” reported.
At the meeting in Salzburg from the Catholic side also Auxiliary Bishop Hansjörg Hofer, Archabbot Korbinian Birnbacher, Sr. Perpetua Hilgenberg, and the chairman of the Salzburg “Pro Oriente”-Section, Prof. Dietmar Winkler, part.
