Toulouse. Lafourguette: residents still opposed to the second pound project
In Lafourguette, residents are worried about the upcoming establishment of a second pound. This Wednesday evening, the project should be at the heart of the debates of the neighborhood committee meeting. “This location is completely abnormal in the middle of residential buildings and villas. No city in France sets up a car cemetery in the middle of a neighborhood that is trying to improve” considers a local resident.
The town hall of Toulouse, which has to deal with the saturation of the current pound, avenue des Etats-Unis, wishes to set up a second pound with three hundred spaces on a vacant lot located at the corner of the road to Seysses and the Eisenhower Ave. Or the residents fear that the century-old trees planted on the ground will be cut down, and that the ballet of the cars removed will make their life impossible. The municipal security assistant, Emilion Esnault, wants to be reassuring: “Under no circumstances will trees be cut down, says the elected official. We want to develop a shaded car park with 300 spaces, 70 less than in the initial project. Finally, we will park low-turnover vehicles there.” Most of these will be judicial immobilizations or abusive parking. “It will be neither more nor less than a parking lot” assures Emilion Esnault who promises “a project co-constructed with the inhabitants”.
Currently the pound on the Avenue des Etats-Unis has 450 places, all occupied. The average stay of the vehicles is thirty days, hence the need to find a new site.
