Munich · “Open Sports”, the free exercise and sports program of the city of Munich, is starting immediately with a colorful selection of trend and action sports. The campaign was already presented in mid-December 2021 under the title “Fit in Winter”.
The range of sports designed for children aged 6 to 12 and young people from 13 to 17 offers plenty of opportunities to exercise, meet friends and be active during the cold season. Sports mayor Verena Dietl and sports consultant Florian Kraus visited the skate hall “SpaceForSkate”, an indoor skate hall in Munich, on Dachauer Straße last week.
The department for education and sports supports the approximately 500 square meter area with a subsidy and together with the skate school Munich an “Open Sports” skateboard offer for children and young people as well as workshops for girls. Pacel Khachab, the owner of the skate hall, founded the skate school Munich in March 2018 and has set himself the goal of offering everyone individual development opportunities on the skateboard, regardless of origin, ethnicity, age or gender.
“I am pleased that the sports department is implementing our initiative so quickly, it comes at exactly the right time. Together with clubs and sports providers, we offer Munich children and young people a comprehensive and free sports program with the ‘Open Sports’ concept. I am particularly pleased that the skate hall is part of the creative district. Many children will be able to learn and practice skating. And with a course specially designed for girls, Munich will receive numerous new young skaters,” says Mayor Verena Dietl happily.
Sports consultant Florian Kraus added during his visit: “I am pleased that the state capital of Munich can offer children and young people a free sports program. It’s great to see how much fun the children and young people have learning this sport and how committed the trainers are to providing advice and support. It is important for the sports city of Munich that this skate hall has probably created the opportunity to be able to pursue this sport, which is becoming increasingly popular, even in winter and when the weather is bad.”
