Euthanasia, reflection on the referendum in Italy and San Marino
We receive and publish
Since I have lived in San Marino, I have always been struck by the pride with which he affirmed the principle of his sovereignty, with the affirmation that the San Marino identity was an asset that should not be sold off or diminished. It was not enough to say “But that’s how it is done in Italy”, because the answer was always the same: “Here we are in San Marino!”.
Then I happened to hear statements that contradicted this just principle, which essentially asked to conform to what was happening in Europe, according to the slogan that one cannot remain as the “rear end”.
When it came to proposing that Proposal referendum to include abortion as a right in the Republic, we wanted to emphasize the need to refer to the Italian law 194, taken, alas, as a model.
Now, perhaps to the discouragement of some, this is what the Italian Constitutional Court has established, with a sentence that will then be filed later in all its entirety, but which in the general meaning specifies some indisputable points.
“There Court Italian constitutional considered inadmissible the referendum question for the repeal of the law on the murder of the consenting party because it would not be preserved the minimum constitutionally necessary protection of human lifein general, and with particular reference to weak and vulnerable people.“
It is striking to grasp in these words of the sentence a fundamental principle, which should be the foundation of civil legislation, and that is, that preservation is necessary “the minimum constitutionally necessary protection of human life»: The question of freedom comes into play in these words, which instead of being arbitrated becomes the protection of the precious good of human life. And the words of Giosuè Carducci on “Perpetual Freedom”, especially with the conclusion in which the Poet reminded everyone – quoting what he exclaimed Garibaldi – the responsibility that a small state has to be a sign and betrothed of truth, freedom and rights: “I will always remember the generous hospitality of San Marino in an hour of supreme disaster for me and for Italy. – O republic, full of the admirable spirit of history in your littleness, how, when ancient Rome darkened, you had gone out to welcome the ashes of Italian freedom scattered to the winds, thus, reviving Rome innovated to other destinies, you were deigned to save the nine fate of Italy. Honor to you, or ancient republic, virtuous, generous, trustworthy! honor to you! and live eternal with the life and glory of Italy!“.
Identity and responsibility are indispensable characteristics of a people, and perhaps the fact that Italy, a sister nation, has deliberated in favor of human life, “with particular reference to the weak and vulnerable», Gives hope that a different path may begin in our reality.
“Ancient land of freedom”, find your roots, recognize the gems of good that sprout between us and close to us, “Be blessed over the centuries, O San Marino, by how many souls of Italians live and will live in the homeland and in freedom“.
