Secretary Beccari on the Russian-Ukraine crisis
The Republic of San Marino endorses the appeals to avert a Russian-Ukrainian conflict, firmly associating itself with the efforts of the international community to promote political solutions for a complete de-escalation of tensions between the Parties. The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Luca Beccari, intervenes in these frantic hours for the two countries involved, for Europe and for the entire international community, the reasons for dialogue and political mediation, always and in any case invoked and reaffirm strongly from a Republic that founds the cornerstones of its political identity in peace and in the principles of active neutrality. For the Republic of San Marino, a war, of any size and nature, is absolutely to be avoided, since it would cause unbearable human suffering, destruction, rights and concern for European security and peace, and worldwide. For this reason, Secretary of State Beccari considers all the ongoing negotiations to be necessary and urgent, hoping that they will not be interrupted until a peaceful result is reached. Beccari also acknowledges the utmost attention of the diplomatic representatives of the Republic at the multilateral fora where dedicated meetings and talks are taking place, especially within the OSCE, who have been asked to reiterate, where possible, the position of the Republic of San Marino . A position that is further supported, in these hours, also by the declarations of the Secretary General of the United Nations, who verbatim reiterates that “there is no alternative to diplomacy. All questions, including the most intractable, can and must be addressed and resolved through diplomatic structures. I firmly believe that this principle will prevail. As Secretary-General of the United Nations, it is my duty to appeal to full compliance with the Charter of the United Nations, which is fundamental to international law. ” Similarly, Secretary of State Beccari shares the strong call for peace, incessantly invoked by Pope Francis, who never tires of raising his voice towards the assumption of an attitude of full “responsibility for peace”, defining war as a madness and those responsible to put the common interest before that of the Parties. In this spirit, the Head of San Marino foreign policy supports the numerous and concrete demonstrations for peace that are taking place in numerous countries; in this regard, in the wake of the deep friendship that binds San Marino to the Community of Sant’Egidio, the Republic is also ideally associated with the initiatives it has initiated, an act of realism and testimony in favor of a peaceful resolution.
