Ministry of Culture confirms that Pedro Neves Marques represents Portugal in Venice | Arts
Pedro Neves Marques’ project will even represent Portugal in the next edition of the Venice Biennale, which will take place in April. The appeal filed by the curator by artist Grada Kilomba, Bruno Leitão, the Government’s legal services recommended that approval of the final classification was maintained, it appears that the Minister of Culture accepted.
A source from the Ministry of Culture (MC) highlights that “a legal analysis is in its legal case” and adds that, in the opinion, the JurisAPP (Government’s legal competence center), although it does not defend the reason for canceling the contest, however, “there is a duty to state reasons in an evaluation element that was part of one of the Evaluation Committee, which does not coincide with the reasons given for the grade given with the reasons given”.
Although the MC’s office does not name the candidate as a juror, it is the university professor and art critic Nuno Crepo, who assigned Grada Kilomba’s project, in the three criteria a, two 10 and one 15, on a scale of 0 a 20. But the JurisAPP an originated list “has no effect, insofar as a classification of the classification by the referred element (…) does not change the classification of the final classification”.
