Humboldt University in Berlin: New President to be elected
Berlin (dpa/bb) – A new president is to be elected today (9 a.m.) at the Humboldt University (HU) in Berlin. There are many indications that the Council will decide that Julia von Blumenthal, currently President of the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), will become the new HU President. Your competitor withdrew his application last week.
According to him, Joybrato Mukherjee, President of the University of Giessen, withdrew from the election process because he did not want to chair a purely male presidency. Blumenthal is now the only candidate available for the presidential election.
The HU website states that von Blumenthal believes that, in addition to the necessary adjustments to the Berlin Higher Education Act, the development of modern personnel structures for the scientific sector is important.
Von Blumenthal has been Viadrina President since October 2018 and was previously Dean of the Faculty of Cultural, Social and Educational Sciences at the HU and Professor at the Institute for Social Sciences.
