Great Britain gives Sweden its first loss

Sweden’s place in the curling semifinals for men was already locked, but the team’s hopes of going undefeated to the medal round no longer exist. Niklas Edins the team fell to Great Britain by 7-6 in session 10 of games on Tuesday.
Britain scored one point in the first and stole two more in the second to take a lead they never let go.
Sweden’s six points are a draw for the least they have done in a match in this Olympics.
GBR skip Bruce Mouat took out all Swedish stones with GBR’s penultimate throw in the 10th, count on one that sits far on the 12-foot circle.
Sweden put their second stone on the opposite side of the 12-footer, but Mouat took out the other, which forced Sweden to settle for just one point and gave GBR the win.
Great Britain wins its own place in the semi-finals with the win and improves to 6-1 overall.
Sweden (7-1) will end their round robin game on Wednesday against Switzerland at 20:05 ET.
Great Britain will face ROC at 01:05 ET on Wednesday and will end the round robin game later the same day against Canada.
China 8, Norway 6
China’s hopes of getting into the men’s curling semifinals are likely gone, but the team was able to play spoiler for a medal round hopeful on Tuesday with an 8-6 win over Norway.
With the score tied at 4-4 in the eighth, China Ma Xiuyue took out Norway’s only stone on the club team to give their team three points and their fourth lead of the day.
China held on for the victory on a selection of Ma on the last stone, put the Chinese stone on 4-foot for one and the victory.
Norway falls to 3-5 with the loss, which takes them from fourth place in the table.
Norway starts session 11 and ends the round robin game on Wednesday at 20:05 ET against Italy.
China will play session 11 against Switzerland at 01:05 ET on Wednesday to end their round robin game.
ROC 7, Canada 6 (11 ends)
It took an extra finish, but 11 ROC were able to keep their semifinal jumps alive with a 7-6 victory over Canada.
None of the teams scored more than a single point at either end until ROC placed two on the ninth. Sergey Glukhovs The hammer throw bounced another of his team’s stones into the house to give ROC a 6-4 lead into the final end.
Canada Brad Gushue came up big when he needed to in the tenth, and came around a ROC rock to land on the inside and give Canada two points to force an extra finish.
It did not matter in the 11th, however. ROC had a hammer at the extra end and used it to its advantage. Gushue put Canada’s last stone just on the edge of the 4-footer, but Glukhov had no problem drawing a straight line to the button for a point and a win.
With the win, ROC improves to 4-4 and a draw also with Team USA for fourth in the overall standings. The four best teams advance to the semifinals.
ROC will end the round robin game on Wednesday at 1:05 ET against Great Britain.
Canada improves to 5-3 and stays in 3rd place in the table. Gushue’s team will end the round robin game on Thursday at 20:05 ET against Great Britain.
