The diplomat added that only American media wrote about this date. “It’s very ridiculous and strange,” he concluded.
On significance, a number of Western media fell that Russia could implement the initiative as early as this week and named February 16 as a possible definition for achieving the goal.
Russian behavior
Russia does not change Ukraine’s behavior in relation to the surroundings, only the Western countries’ perception of the current situation has changed, Polyansky said.
“I have not heard any change in my rhetoric or in the rhetoric of the Minister of Foreign Affairs [России Сергея Лаврова], nor in the rhetoric of my colleagues, she was consistent all month. There is no change in behavior on our side, only a change in behavior and perceptions considered by Western colleagues,” he said in response to a question about whether the threat of a change in the rhetoric of government authorities could be delayed.
“We have already been sanctioned for discovering something new.”
On Monday, the countries of the Group of Seven (G7), chaired by Germany, said they were ready to impose sanctions against Moscow in the event of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which are involved for “large-scale and immediate consequences” for the Russian economy. The statement emphasizes that the G7 intends to “act quickly and react to support the Ukrainian situation, while continuing to neglect the situation to urgently identify a path to de-escalate the situation on the border with the Russian Federation.”
Recently, in Western countries, as well as in Kiev, there has been an assessment of a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov called such information empty and unfounded escalation of stress. He realized that Russia does not represent criminal responsibility for anyone. At the same time, Peskov did not exclude the possibility of provocations to justify such alleged ones and warned that the alleged forceful solutions to the crisis in the south of Ukraine’s reproduction would have the most serious consequences.
