A Kurdish journalist was arrested for entering Greece illegally
At the Pre-Departure Detention Center for Foreigners in the Fylaki area Evrosthe Kurd has been detained since Sunday journalist Idris Sayilgan who was arrested on the morning of February 13 in the area of Isaki, Didymoteicho, by men of the Border Guard Department for illegal entry into Greece. According to the ERT Orestiada report, the journalist in question, of Kurdish origin, is known in Turkey as he was released on November 27, 2019, after being held in prison for 1,137 days and was sentenced by young people to an additional 4 years in prison in 2020 in the city of Mus, for “propaganda and terrorist organization” case against him while was in jail. The European Court of Human Rights has dealt with his case as the former Dicle journalist was arrested in October 2016 on charges of “propaganda for a terrorist organization” and “member of a terrorist organization” where he was imprisoned in Trabzon as a journalist. Mezopotamya Idris Sayilgan in March 2020 was detained in Edirne where he went to follow the refugees heading to the Greek border. Sayilgan was arrested along with journalist Naci Kaya on the grounds that they “entered a restricted area” on Saturday, February 29, 2020, and after appealing, they were released.
Finally on April 14, 2021 they were acquitted due to lack of sufficient information.
The journalist is being held administratively while a local lawyer has already undertaken to represent him in all the prescribed procedures.
