The construction site looks important. As part of the construction work for the third metro line, the war memorialthat the inhabitants of Toulouse are used to calling a monument to the dead, will be completely disassembled at the end of 2023, indicates Tisséo to Toulouse news.
The building will then be restored and reassembled in the same place. A tender will be launched soon to find a specialized company capable of carrying out the work.
Fifty plane trees saved
This operation will allow the construction of the new François Verdier station, which will be located under the war memorial. The dismantling of the building will be voted Wednesday, February 16, 2022 by Tisseo.
Originally, the new François Verdier station was to be located on the Verdier alleys. But this option, which would have involved the slaughter of a fifty plane trees centenarians, was not retained. Tisséo finally decided to relocate the future 3rd line station under the war memorial.
Several options have been studied
In recent months, three solutions had been applied: the dismantling and reassembly of the War Memorial during the work; reinforcement of the monument during construction to protect it from the risk of underground work; and finally shifting on rails, which consisted in a way of putting the monument on rails to move it.
After technical studies carried out from the summer of 2021, it is therefore the first option that has been chosen.
The commissioning of the third metro line, which will link Labège to Colomiers and will have 21 stations, is planned for 2028. Construction will start at the end of 2022.
