The priorities of the Attica Metro for the next projects – Athens Transport
After the upcoming delivery of the last three stations of the extension of Metro line 3 in Piraeus next summer, the project of line 4 (section Alsos Veikou – Goudi) will be the only project of the Attica Metro that will be in progress in Athens. The preliminary works of the project are in full progress with the prospect of completion by next year, when the main works for the opening of the tunnel and the construction of the stations will begin.
The recent signing of an agreement between Attiki Metro and Bank Investments for financing of 580 million euros through a 30-year loan, the second part of the total amount of 730 million euros provided by the EIB for the project, also gives impetus to the project.
In addition to this important project, Attiko Metro is promoting other extensions of the Metro in Athens, which are currently in the study phase.
The first priority for the Attiki Metro is the extension of Metro line 2 from Anthoupolis to Ilion with three new stations, with the relevant tender going on the air until the end of 2022.
This will be followed by two more extensions, one of which has been under study for many years and one which has recently come into focus: the southern extension of Metro line 2 to Glyfada with 3 stations and the extension of line 1 ( via underground branch) from Thissio to Kallithea and Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center with four new stations. Through the expansion of the ISAP line (the first since 1957), it will complete the service of the SNFCC from the Metro network that has been pending for years.
Attiki Metro is also maturing the extensions of line 4, which could probably be done after the completion of the first section of the line. This is the Evangelismos branch to Pagrati, Byron and Ymittos where it serves the new government park of PYRKAL, the extension from Alsos Veikou to Nea Ionia, New Philadelphia, Agios Anargyros and St. Petersburg and the extension from Goudi to Marousi. and then to Pefki and Lykovrisi.
