THE WORLD GOTHA IN LIEVIN
Once again the first world meeting in 2021 with the best total points ever achieved in the world, the Liévin Meeting is part of the prestigious “Indoor Tour Gold” which brings together the 7 best world meetings. The meeting on Thursday February 17 will again be the perfect opportunity to achieve great performances and the minimums for the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Belgrade from March 18 to 20.
The regulars of the Liévin meeting immediately responded to the invitation of the organizers: The Ethiopian Gudaf Tsegay who broke the world record for the 1500m indoor in Liévin last year and bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics in the 5000m, will line up for the mile.
The young 20-year-old Norwegian prodigy, Olympic champion in the 1500m, Jakob Ingebrigtsen who had set the Arena Stade Couvert on fire last year in the 1500m by winning and beating the indoor European record in 3’31”80, a announces that he is returning to the Hauts-de-France Region to try to break the indoor world record!
The American hurdler Grant Holloway who caused a sensation last year in the 60m hurdles by beating the national record of the USA, second world performance of all time in 7”32 returns this year. He had broken the world record in Madrid just after Liévin. The Ethiopian, Olympic champion in the 10000m, Selemon Barega, author of the 3rd best all-time world performance at the Arena last year in the 3000m in 7’26”10 (ahead of a certain Haile GEBRSELASSIE – 7’26’ ’15 in 1998) returns to Liévin to tackle the world record over this same distance (7’24”90).
The reigning double Olympic champion (100m and 4x100m), Marcell Jacobs, winner of the 60m in Liévin last year will be at the start of the 60m again on February 17th.
We will also closely follow the Burkinabe from Artois Athlétisme, Hugues Fabrice Zango, triple jump world record holder and bronze medalist in Tokyo.
