Mayor Hrib: Specific social problems need to be addressed by systems

Councilor The City of Prague approved financial assistance to other projects from the Prague Operational Program, the common goal of which is to help people with health or other disadvantages. The total amount of support, intended for three projects from the Prague Operational Program – half the growth of the Czech Republic, exceeds 15 million crowns.
Among the newly reported organizations that provide social services and will be usable this year, are the Archdiocesan Charity Prague and the non-profit organizations Green Doors or SANANIM, which are dedicated to the care of people with disabilities, mental illness, homelessness or o people at risk of addiction.
The projects were submitted under ongoing calls in the area of promoting social inclusion and combating poverty. A total of 52 projects have been in this call since 2020, and the approved support has reached more than 370 million crowns from European money.
“Specific social problems in our city, such as substance abuse or homelessness, need to be addressed by systems. Such an approach is not only about repression, but also promotes low-threshold services and risk reduction. The Prague City Council is aware of this, so it strives to be a reliable partner of charitable organizations in their projects and to provide them with maximum support, ”says the Mayor of Prague, Zdeněk Hřib, who is in charge of European funds.
The Archdiocesan Charity provides social services to people with disabilities, including the mentally ill, and to homeless or homeless people in Prague and the Central Bohemian Region. Thanks to the subsidy, you will improve the conditions in exactly three social services entities (St. Theresa’s Asylum House, Fatima Social Housing House and the ADCH Prague field program). Part of the building modifications in the amount of almost 8 million crowns is the replacement of the boiler, insulation of the building or replacement of windows. Thanks to the project, you will get a new electric car for the field service to provide medical or therapeutic assistance outside the charity.
The issue of mental health has long been addressed by the organization Green Doors, which operates three companies in which it employs people with mental illness and thus helps them on their way back to working life. Thanks to a subsidy of almost three million crowns, the training cafés Halfway, Mlsná Kavka and V. kolona will be modernized and partially reconstructed. After learning in the café, Green Doors clients use their newly acquired experience and acquired self-confidence and find it easier to find a new job that can be further realized.

The support is also aimed at building a mobile office of the SANANIM organization in the territory of Prague 13. The organization focuses on helping people at risk of addiction and families in an unfavorable social situation, including single parents.
The Prague Operational Program – Growth Pole of the Czech Republic (OP PPR) has been operating in the territory of Prague since 2014, and for the 2014-2020 programming period, Prague received more than EUR 200 million from the European Structural Funds (ESIF). Since the launch of the program, more than 1,600 projects have been supported that improve living space and quality of life for Praguers, but also, for example, support science, business and education in Prague.
