Letter to the Editor – And Sweden? – Liechtensteiner Volksblatt, the daily newspaper for Liechtenstein
There are many ways to deal with a virus like Covid-19. The way most European countries, including Liechtenstein, did it was wrong. We definitely know that today. A look at Sweden, which has been shot a lot, clearly shows: This is how you have to deal with such situations. It’s true, even Sweden has and had to mourn fatalities. To be precise, in terms of population figures, almost as many as Germany.
Only with one huge difference: Sweden made it without masks, without lockdowns and without closed cultural and gastronomic establishments. And with the same result, billions in damage are caused, not to mention the much lower psychological burden on the population, especially on children. It’s time for our politicians to recognize that we’ve been on the wrong track for two years. Well, ours was less broad than that of Austria and Germany, which will have to cope with their mistakes in the coming decades.
Vorarlberg has increased its mountain of debt from 100 million euros to 600 million euros within two corona years due to the “measures”.
Today we should bow unenviously but respectfully to the Swedes, adapt their system and better prepare for the coming pandemics. I know politicians don’t like to admit their mistakes, actually almost never. However, this does not apply to an old saying that one learns from mistakes. We should learn.
