Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov confirmed in an interview with bTV on Monday that economist Ilian Mihov is indeed among the discussions on the nominations for governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB).
“There are few universities in the world that are at such a high level as INSEAD. If you are a professor at this university, you are at a very high level, but if you are a dean, you have broken all the glass ceilings of this institution … If a person like Ilian Mihov is in this position, all Bulgarians should be proud, but I do not know is it possible”.
In any case, Mihov will not be the only candidate for the post, as there is an agreement that each of the four formations in the ruling coalition will offer its nomination or several, propose them to a coalition council and hold a competition to the good one to take the position. ” “He has so many options and opportunities that this will be a donation from his time if he agrees to take this position,” Petkov said.
As early as Friday, the budget committee in the National Assembly started the procedure for electing a new management of the central bank, adopting procedural rules.
And over the weekend, MRF MP Yordan Tsonev announced that Mihov is one of the names under discussion for governor.
The famous Bulgarian financier Ilian Mihov is the rector of the elite INSEAD University.
Among other possible candidates for BNB governor is Lubomir Karimanski of the ITN. So far, he has not confirmed that he is interested in the post, but he has not denied it. According to the rules of the parliamentary groups, they can submit proposals for candidates for governor of the central bank within 20 days from the adoption of the rules of procedure in the plenary hall.
Petkov said that he stated the following very interesting situation in Ukraine.
“What can be seen is that all the potential for attack is there. Interestingly, Russia, if it decides, already has the entire battle group formed, which can enter Ukraine. From now on, it is a matter of Vladimir Putin’s political decision. I hope there will be no war and these are the bluffing moves. If this step is taken, it is not clear what the end result will be, “he said.
According to the Prime Minister, stopping gas from Russia would be a big blow for Bulgaria, but there are options for preserving our energy system. “I am already in talks with the EC – if this most fatal option is reached, we can partially cut off the amount of electricity so that Bulgarian households have enough energy,” he said, adding that the possibility of supplying liquefied gas through Nea Mesembria “is also a topic of discussion between Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Assen Vassilev in the United States. As it became clear earlier today, Vassilev is on a several-day visit to the United States together with the Minister of Energy.
