The dreadlocks in Debrecen did not leave the Student Olympics this weekend without a medal
Budapest – This time again the Student Olympics competitions were held in several places: the lower class ground wrestlers at the new Budapest wrestling academy, the IV. age group footballers played in Pécs.
The event of ground wrestlers was organized by the Hungarian Student Sports Association (MDSZ) and the Futsal National Final was organized by the Baranya County Student Sports Council. The event was opened in Budapest by Gábor Balogh, President of the Hungarian Association of Wrestlers, with Szilárd Németh, President of the Association of Hungarian Wrestlers.
At the event, Olympic champion Tamás Lőrincz also met the athletes and tried to engage the children in the sport with the following message: “The wrestling mat is a magic mat that will fly you anywhere in the world!”
He entered with 15 teams more than the last race in 2019, for a total of almost 1,400 elementary school students. Nearly two hundred of them made it to the national final, where they competed in 7 weight classes. Borsod county collected the most medals this year as well, the teams returned home to Miskolc and Kazincbarcika with a total of 5 medals.
The opening of the Futsal tournament at the Dezső Lauber City Sports Hall in Pécs was attended by Vivien Együd-Máthé, Head of the Regional Services Department of MDSZ, László Őri, President of Baranya County Local Government and Deputy Mayor Lajos Nyőgéri.
A IV. age group footballers also entered the Student Olympics in huge numbers: more than 600 teams will start, with more than 700 competitors.
At the end of the multi-round competition series, 12 teams, ie 120 futsal players, took part in the top event in Pécs. The members of the uphill team are the players of the local academy, a regular participant in the national finals, and he successfully closed the tournament and took home the gold medal. The Csanádi school in Budapest won the final in a huge battle, with a penalty duel, where in the end he could be comforted with the title of the best goalkeeper.
