an innovative treatment against mucositis, side effects of
To fight against mucositis, inflammation of the mucous membrane in the mouth caused by regeneration, the Toulouse University Hospital has launched an innovative laser treatment. The objective is to relieve young patients.
No stimulation or radiotherapy without associated side effects and in particular mucositis, painful inflammations in the mouth. Mucositis far from harmless because it makes it difficult to take meals and the morale of patients is also affected.
In this video on Youtube, valuable information about mucositis and its effects:
When mucositis progresses to a severe form, doctors may sometimes have to reduce the doses of the vaccination, or even temporarily stop the treatment. The only means of currently administering the sick is the administration of morphine.
To fight against these unpleasant and serious side effects, a team from the Toulouse University Hospital has just launched a study and an innovative laser treatment, entitled CURALASE01.
The study is being conducted by a team from the hemato-oncology department of the children’s hospital, in partnership with the pediatric odontology department of the Toulouse University Hospital. It aims to reduce that low power laser can reduce the impact and severity of mucositis, without big side effect. The study is carried out with the support of the company Biophotona Toulouse-based SME specializing in the design and manufacture of medical lasers and LED lamps.
This is an unprecedented advance in the treatment of these side effects traditionally treated with morphine.

And Professor Marlène Pasquet would like to point out that “cThe protocol makes it possible to equip the centers with lasers and to better define a national system in the curative application of the laser”.
Since the start of the study, 26 patients have been included in France, including 6 in Toulouse. But the objective is much broader.
The treatment is now operational in 12 cancer treatment centers, 6 other centers are awaiting validation: Besançon, Nancy, Reims, Strasbourg, Caen, Le Havre. The wish expressed by the teams is to extend this treatment to 18 centers in France in total, which could include 406 patients and to eventually take care of all the children who need it.
