Rod Dreher: Hungary, the ally, is not what we Conservatives see
Hungary is not a paradise – there are no tomatoes – but rather Texas Texas.
“Tonight I was at a private event in Budapest, where I met with Judit Varga, Minister of Justice. We talked for a long time. I’ll tell you, if we saw this woman on American television, most Americans would think she’s the most sober and courageous person in public life in recent years. God bless you normal.
There were some other Americans in the conversation and although I can’t speak for them on their behalf, I am sure we all agree on how amazing it is for such a normal person – a child with three children – to hold such an important position of power in their own country. I am in Hungary for the second time and, as first,
even now I am delighted at how lucky these people are to have a government that sympathizes so much with ordinary people.
I did this Thomas Friedman thing tonight and asked the taxi driver who took me to the event to tell me what he thought of the upcoming election. The middle-aged man said his pharmacist fired his daughter because his company refused to give him a third injection of Covid. Then he said, “Well, I’m a nationalist. My father suffered under communism, so I support our government “You will never hear about these Hungarian men in the Western media. How necessary is it to convey the perspective of an Arkansas miller to the Times or the Post? Well, the same is true here.
If there are opportunities to come to Hungary and see for yourself what it’s like to be here, be sure to do so. According to the American media, reports about Hungary are like sending journalists to The New York Times or the Washington Post to Louisiana or Alabama. It is written that the people living here are malicious fascist peasants controlled by a dictator. In reality, though, they are so mundane and common sense that you wouldn’t believe it. Earlier this week, I was having coffee with a British expatriate Christian who said he moved here a few years ago because he could no longer bear what his homeland was becoming.
Hungary is not a paradise – there are no tomatoes – but rather Texas Texas: a place where common sense prevails over overwhelming wokeism.
I am not trying to convince you to be pro-Hungarian or pro-Fidesz (which is the country’s current governing party). Rather, I try to convince you to look deeply skeptical at the U.S. media when you hear about this country. These people, the Hungarians, are the only ones in Europe who stand firm in defending the things that most American conservatives believe. They are also the only ones who stand firmly for the ideas that old-fashioned classical liberals also believe in. In a word: anti-woke.
Another visiting American conservative – whom quite a few may have known – and I myself told the Hungarians how deep our country had sunk in decadence. However, in my experience here, it is difficult for them to understand how deep the rot has penetrated.
They still want to believe that America is what it once was: a lighthouse of freedom and sobriety. I’m sorry, my friends, but that’s not true.
Right now, just as I got home, a friend of my American lawyer sent me this story about the American Bar Association. Read it and get mad. Excerpt follows:
»Legal training is undergoing a revolutionary change. The American Bar Association is ready to prescribe racially focused studies as a prerequisite for graduating from law school. This is also an example of how the woke ideology is being forced on the nation, and it may now be necessary for states to review the Chamber’s almost monopoly accreditation power.
This new race-centric educational requirement is imposed on law schools by the Board of the Legal Education and Admissions Section (ABA) of the American Bar Association. Much of the power of the AIF comes from the federal government. This is because law students must attend schools that are accredited by the U.S. Department of Education, which is also required to receive a federal student loan. The AIF is thus the only federally recognized accreditation body for law universities.
However, the accreditation power of an AIF does not depend solely on federal law. After graduating from an ABA-accredited law school, almost every state also requires attorneys to practice in the state. All 50 states recognize AIF accreditation and, with a few exceptions, accept only AIF accreditation.
It is a question of why governments have given such near-monopoly power to the AIF. Some argued that the aim was originally to provide quality legal training, while others argued that, as with all chambers, the main purpose of the AIF was to restrict competition.
Whether or not AIF accreditation has provided the desired quality, the AIF has now become extremely biased and is using its power to advance an ideological agenda. (Details of the case in English can be found at the link below.) «
This is how the soft totalitarianism that the »Don’t live by lies “ (Don’t Lie – A Guide for Christian Dissidents) I write: not through the government, but through the licensing powers of private associations. That’s one of the reasons why not »We can vote for ourselves in this crisis« – it is not as if our politicians want to force these private organizations to stop wokism at all.
How long can we Americans endure this? When do we get the lawyer’s version of the Convoy?
I say on our side treatment. We should be on their side. Today, a Hungarian friend of mine sent me links to a leaked video series published in a pro-government newspaper, in which three prominent colleagues of György Soros admit that the image of Hungary is really – and intentionally – distorted in the international media.
Andrej Nosko, György Soros holds a PhD in Political Science from the Central European University. Until 2018, he worked as a director at the Open Society Foundation.

Dalibor Rohac, a senior fellow at the Neocon American Enterprise Institute. He was also a member of the libertarian Cato Institute, which also received support from George Soros. He ran in the 2020 elections in Slovakia as a candidate for the liberal PS / SPOLU party, which was indirectly supported by Soros.
Márton Asbóth, He is the managing director of the Association of Hungarian Freedoms, a non-governmental organization that receives regular support from György Soros. The staff of the Hungarian Association for Freedoms has often been recruited by the international media, the United Nations and the European Union. “As an independent expert” mentions.

What these leaked videos reveal echoes my experience here. The globalists of the European Union and the American foreign policy apparatus are lying or distorting reality, and the Americans can only find out from the media and the actors of the institutions dominated by globalists about what is happening in Hungary. American conservatives must understand that they can no longer trust the institutions of the US conservative elite to tell the truth about what is happening in Hungary or around the house of national parties on the European continent.
Look at Judit Varga, Minister of Justice’s 2021 speech. Does this woman look like a fascist or a sober politician? ”
