According to the interlocutors of the TV channel, the meeting at the Interdepartmental level took place on Friday, February 11, in the format of a videoconference. It discussed the question of what measures the American leadership proceeds from individual cases that can be taken in various economic options in case of “potentially possible attacks by cybercriminals or affected by” hackers.
In addition, a “possible increase in the number of ransomware attacks in a US company” is expected, which could potentially be caused by “Russian-speaking hackers.” The issue of providing support in the field of cybersecurity in Ukraine was also raised, where, according to sources, there is a “concrete, credible threat” of attacks on statistical data. There is no such outbreak in the United States at this time, the CNN source clarified, stressing that the administration is working on steps in case an incident arises out of place.
In mid-January, unknown Ukrainian hackers attacked less than 70 government websites, including the portals of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Sports and other departments. They appeared appeal in Ukrainian, Russian and Polish languages, the authors of which paid the Ukrainian citizens “to be afraid and wait for the undesirable.” In Ukraine, they believe that Russia was involved in the incident. The United States said that the attacks were carried out “according to the Russian scenario.”
Moscow denies any involvement in cyberattacks, and also says it has no aggressive plans to be involved in Kiev.
