AVIGNON

We leave our reserve Act 2 Musée Vouland Avignon Saturday February 12, 2022

Sugar Mizzy February 12, 2022

On fate of our reserve Act 2 Vouland Museum, February 12, 2022, Avignon.

On fate of our reserve Act 2
from Saturday 12 February to Sunday 22 May at Musée Vouland
This is a new invitation to discover works from the reserves of the Vouland museum. Landscapes, genre scenes and portraits, linked to Provence and more particularly to Avignon and its School of Fine Arts, brought into contact with artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. Émile Loubon, Dominique Papety, Eugène Lagier, Pierre Grivolas, Charles Vionnet, Claude Firmin, Clément Brun, René Seyssaud, Eugène Martel, Alfred Lesbros, Louis-Agricol Montagné, Auguste Chabaud, François Omer, André Rodet, Jean-Claude Imbert, Marcel Dumont, Jean-Marie Fage, Michel Steiner As an extension of the first act in 2021, paintings and drawings linked to the Provence-Languedoc region dialogue with the decorative arts collection of the Vouland museum. This exhibition recalls the dual vocation of the museum, the Decorative Arts of the 17th and 18th centuries, mainly Parisian, and the arts of the Provence and Languedoc region. It highlights landscapes of the Vaucluse, alongside portraits and scenes of daily life. The “Provençal” collection has been enriched year after year since the opening of the museum in 1982. This year, an ink by Marcel Dumont has joined the collection, after three oils by Jean-Marie Fage last year. The first room relates watercolor landscapes by Michel Steiner, the Rhône plain and cherry blossoms, with portraits of Clément Brun, Achille Moreau, full length, archetype of the ceremonial portrait of the end of the 19th century. century, and an old comtadine, humble and discreet. Then there are views of Avignon by Auguste Chabaud and Clément Brun, and the Pont d’Avignon in stencil by Alfred Lesbros. Further on, a monumental bouquet of Sunflowers by René Seyssaud seems to dialogue with an astonishing Peach tree by Alfred Lesbros. Further on, we pass other ceremonial portraits in the cafes of Revest-du-Bion. If these artists of the 19th and 20th centuries rub shoulders in the museum today, it should be remembered that most are linked to the creative center of the School of Fine Arts in Avignon, and that generation after generation, from Pierre Grivolas to Michel Steiner, many of the artists exhibited were trained there, taught there or directed it. We can also recall that at the beginning of the 1950s, the young Jean-Marie Fage evoked the old Auguste Chabaud, who had received the teaching of Pierre Grivolas.
