politics | Belgium and Luxembourg advise leaving Ukraine
Belgium and Luxembourg on Saturday advised their nationals to leave Ukraine and advised against travel to the country, the two countries’ foreign ministries announced.
“Nationals who are currently in Ukraine and whose presence is not absolutely necessary are strongly advised to leave the country“, specified the Belgian ministry on its site. All travel to the entire Ukrainian territory is strongly discouraged“, adds the recommendation.
The ministry recommends that its nationals who cannot leave the country register on the Travelers Online website, to which it provides the link, in order to benefit from advice.
“If the situation worsens, an evacuation from Ukraine cannot be guaranteed. It is therefore advisable to leave the country as long as it is still possible.“, warns the Belgian government.
“The situation is extremely unpredictable. In the event of a sudden deterioration, the means of communication in Ukraine, such as Internet and telephone traffic, may be altered. This could have serious consequences for the operation of airports and hamper air travel to, from and within Ukraine“, specify the Belgian authorities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg has also invited its nationals who are currently in Ukraine and “whose presence is not absolutely necessary” to leave the country and advised against “any travel to the entire territory of Ukraine“.
Luxembourgers who remain in Ukraine are invited to register with the Belgian embassy in Kiev.
