Florence, for Valentine’s Day ‘Donate a tree’ is back. Two hearts in Piazza Santa Maria Novella
For Valentine’s Day it is possible to donate a tree to your lover or in love, with a special dedication: they are indeed still 400 plants available, including fruit trees, let the Municipality of Florence know.
The 400 new trees will be added to the 1100 already donated since the start of the project, of which 750 have already been planted. It is mostly about maples (about 250) but also Cherry tree (about 200), oaks (about 80), limes (about 60), followed by holm oaks, willows, plane trees, rowans, ash and hornbeams, as well as 40 fruit trees, from pomegranates to mandolins, strawberry trees, peaches, mulberries, apple trees, hazelnuts, jujubes and others. For the most recently planted trees, the labeling is now in progress, and the notice is sent to the donor. The 350 trees still to be planted will be planted by April in order to complete the planting of all the trees donated by February 2022.
“A special dedication to one’s lover or in love was certainly one of the reasons that led the Florentines to donate a tree to the city – said Cecilia Del Re, the Councilor for the Environment and Technological Innovation -, also beautiful with messages from ‘love, thus marrying this participatory vision of urban green. There are still 400 trees available to donate in different areas and gardens of the city, in addition to the approximately 1100 specimens already donated: a gesture of love not only for one’s beloved or loved one, but also for our city. A project that immediately had great success, with the recognition of President Mattarella on the innovation front, and that combines digital and urban green to achieve the sustainability and social objectives that are at the heart of our mandate program ” .
For Valentine’s Day, two hearts were installed by the gardeners of the Environment Department in Piazza Santa Maria Novella.
