Elections in the city of Zurich – will the left-wing dominance in the Zurich municipal council be softened? – Messages

SP, Greens and AL have a comfortable majority in the city parliament. Now the electorate decides whether it stays that way.
The selection for the people of Zurich is gross on election Sunday: twelve parties and groups are running, over 1000 candidates want to win one of the 125 seats in Zurich’s municipal council.
This war was heavily left-dominated during the past legislature. With 69 seats in the municipal council, the AL, SP and Greens were able to shape the city according to their plans.
This dominance is also exceptional for the city of Zurich, which is governed by the red-green government. The SP, Greens and AL have only formed a majority three times since 1990. Otherwise, the left always uses the support from the parties of the middle camp.
The middle party is waiting to enter the city parliament
Whether the current left dominance continues also depends on the performance of the parties in the centre. All parties in Zurich must achieve five percent of the votes in at least one of the constituencies in order to enter parliament.
The EPP cleared this hurdle in the last elections, but the center party (former CVP) failed and withdrew from the municipal council. If both parties make it this time, the majority of seats on the left would probably be missing.
