And one second ribbon cut for Uzaje. Thursday, February 10, 2022, saw the inauguration of its new industrial center in reuse of packaging at 135 avenue Pierre Semard, in Avignon, alongside Cécile Helle, mayor of Avignon, and Alexandra Chamberlain, representative of the Banque des Territoires. This is their second installation after that of Neuilly-sur-Marne (Seine-Saint-Denis).
Uzaje kesako? In fact, rather than recycling waste, Emmanuel Auberger’s firm is betting on reusing it. “On the proposal of stainless steel containers to our collaborators, then we recover them, we cleans and we redistribute them”, supports the co-founder.
Recycling has its limits
“After spending 20 years in the world of packaging, I was aware of the limits of recycling. Rather than recovering a container, breaking it and then reconstituting it, the reuse with a professional wash“explains the former Saint-Gobain and Verallia. Uzaje’s tools have been designed, he says, to minimize their water and electricity consumption.
If this center opens in Avignon, it is according to this former HEC, for several reasons. The City of Avignon and Terres de cuisine, the company that delivers meals to the City’s canteens, were already thinking about swapping the plastic containers of the canteens for bins, which are more ecological solutions. Then, the PACA Region and ADEME will support the business. The South region has indeed set itself the objective of getting out of disposable plastic in 2030 and not in 2040 as in the rest of France. Also, Avignon is a strategic territory. It allows a radius of collection and redistribution over 200 kilometers round. Customers could therefore be canvassed in Avignon as well as in Montpellier, Nice or even at the gates of Lyon.
Danone and Biocoop targeted
But who are these customers? Uzaje offers its services to the collective cateringauxiliary food industry but also at the Distribution. In the Paris region, for example, the company of 25 employees collaborates with Biocoop, for returnable bottles of orange juice, for example, Système U or Blédina.
In Avignon, it intends to target this same type of request, but remains open to proposals as its capacity can increase by four. Eight full-time equivalents, some of whom have an integration contract, will officiate on the site.
